VSD Technology

Atlas Copco VSD Technology

We fully understand capital outlay is a very important consideration when buying a new compressor system but with today’s ever spiraling energy costs and no sign this trend will stop the emphasis on becoming more energy efficient has never been so important, there are compelling reasons for choosing the an Atlas Copco Variable Speed Drive compressor (VSD) as opposed to a conventional fixed speed drive machine.

Taking the 5 year “life cycle cost” of a compressor into consideration it is made up of the purchase price of the compressor, installation and maintenance costs and electrical energy cost to operate it during this period which usually equates to around 80% of the total costs involved.

In 70% of cases the volumetric demand of a typical compressor system fluctuates considerably during the working shift pattern, the advantages of an Atlas Copco GAVSD compressor is clear to see, the GAVSD is designed to match air output to actual demand at any given time resulting in “no off load energy” normal on a conventional full load/no load compressor, off load energy is is unproductive pure “wasted” power.

An Atlas Copco GAVSD compressor can pay for itself fast after which the energy saving benefits become obvious.

Atlas Copco GAVSD Advantages:

  • Variable volumetric output, good turn down ratios, high “life cycle” electrical cost savings.
  • Electronic gearing, pressure capability can be set from 4 to 13 bar from onboard controller.
  • Soft smooth start, no current peaks, no high initial surge like star delta start types.
  • Proven 4th generation inverter technology, assured reliability.
  • Quiet in operation, workplace design concept.
  • Potential to take advantage of a “Carbon Trust” interest free loan.
  • ECA (Enhanced Capital Allowance) available.

Additionally Atlas Copco GAVSD air compressors are available with factory fitted options for integral dryers, integral filters, integral oil/condensate separation equipment designed to save space and simplify installation along with an option for warm water energy recovery for even greater returns on the investment.
